My husband, too, has Hep C. I have trying to find alternative treatments for him. He
already is taking milk thistle and dandelion and drinking essiac tea along
with vitamin supplements. He is also diabetic so I have quite a challenge
cooking for him. Your story was quite an inspiration of hope. Thank you for
creating this site to help those of us in need. God Bless You

Social stigma? If we keep our disease a secret it will grow. HCV has thrived on our
ignorance so please let's don't add to it by being ashamed of who we are & what we
have. It's a disease, a killer, let's expose it!

my wife was found to have hepc two years ago because of lack of the insurance we had
atough time getting her treated and every doctor we went to said something different, and
kept changing her precptions and alll they did was tomask the problem. i took her in the
hospital a year ago christmas and they did all of testing as i had very good insurance and
found out that her liver wasd also damaged. my wife always was very concerned about her
health and tried to keep her self as fit as possible. this past thanksgiving she took a
turn for the worst and was still going thru test for the transplant which takes a long
time. just before christmas she started bleeding internally and took twelve pints of blood
to keep her going as a vessel had burst in side of her and they had to band it off. we got
her home for christmas and the new year which was the only miracle that i wanted and i
told god this and it was granted . two and a half weeks ago i had to take her back in the
hospital again as she was having major problems with eating and sleeping, she passed away
on the 21st of this month after a long time of suffering, and she was on the list for
immediate transplant but all of her organs gave out. i miss her very dearly and it is
lonesome around here without her but i still her smiling face all the time. i just wanted
to tell all of you dont give up even though it is very hard to keep going .i just wish
that we could get the government and every one else to know about hepc.god bless all of
you.and i will keep all of you in my prayers. topgunpr@swbell.net

My husband was diagnosed with Hep C in April 1999. In January 2000 the doctors ran a
RIBA test and say he does not have Hep C. We don't know if he was misdiagnosed to begin
with or if he is one of the rare cases that actually gets rid of it. For almost a year we
lived with the disease and the toll it takes on families and friends. It's a rough thing
to have to have to deal with. All Hep C patients are in my thoughts and prayers everyday.
I feel there is simply not enough being done to get the Hep C info to the public and
increase awareness. I have written my congressman several times, emailed talk shows, etc.
It just doesn't seem like anyone is listening. Even though the virus is no longer in my
family I will continue to write whomever I can to try to get more info out there. It is
something I feel very strongly about and wish I could do more. I will not be able to
attend the event in Washington, however I pray that many can and hope that someone in
Washington will open their ears and hearts and do what is right. Good Luck and God Bless
to all who have to deal with this every day.

On November 8, 1999 I lost my mother-in-law to Hepatitis C. It has been very hard
for our family toget thru this. She was 45 years old and was diagnosed 5 years ago, but
has had for 23 years after receiving a blood transfusion with the birth of her second
child. We found out on Dec. 15(which would have been her birthday) that my
brother-in-law,(the second child) was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. I think that its
wonderful that you have this website to inform people. There is so much educating that
needs to be done. I want to get involved and do what I can.

Hi just found this web site. And hoping maybe a good story will help. I was told Oct
of 1989 that i had hep non a/b. Took the interferon etc etc went from 190lbs to 150lbs. My
ALT were running in the 200-300 range. Starting reading a Herb book and natural healing
starting taking 2 milk thristle tablets 3 times a day for 6 month and fresh squeezed
carrot and beet juice 2 cups a day. And then after 6 month of blood work my ALT count was
down to about 100. Went off for a month increased to about 150. Went back on 6 month and
dropped to the 80 range. Off for a month increased to about the 100-110 Back on 6 monthes
down to normal range. Now at 60 and holding steady. I was told to always give it a month
break in between to give the body time to replensh itself. Still do the carrot juice in
the mornings and of course still some of the depression but ultrasound today show no liver
damage. So listen to your body, GOD put the herbs here for a reason. Just thought I would
share that with you all!!!!! GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS

Need to find out as much info. for my dad's sake as possible since we now know he
has Hep c & diabetes. He's been in & out of coma's and has 10% left to his liver.
That's too little and we are scared senseless since this Hep c disease has no cure. It is
frustrating to see him fade fast without some shred of help that any dr can give him to
prolong his life. Prior to discovering he had Hep C he wasn't sick a day (hardly ever) in
his entire life. He must have gotten it 45 years ago when he had malaria. He hadn't been
sick in 45 years since so you can imagine our surprise when they said he has Hep C and
there is no cure.

My wife has Hep C without any liver damage. She has been on
interferon twice. Once for 2 weeks and once for 3 weeks, but
had to be taken off due to her CBC was 9.0 the first time
and went to 9.8 then 10.0 the 2nd time. We are looking for
some GOOD alternatives to interferon and rebetol. She passed
out the 1st time on the regimine and became very weak on the

In December, 1999 I was diagnosed with Hep C. I have also had Crohn's Disease for
the last 23yrs. My gasto doctor said that I probably aquired Hep C from one of the
numerous blood transfusions that I've had through the years!! I'm really angry about this!
All of the emphasis has been on AIDS, what about Hep patients? Especially our Armed Forces

came back so I will do it again starting next month. I feel so lucky to find out I had it
before it had me, fortunately my liver functions are very good. Right now besides all my
other vitamins I started taking Liquid Liver Extract and Thymulus (this supports the
thymus gland and immune system) hopefully this will help, after a month I'll do my blood
work and see if it has helped. If not I will go back on the combo as much as I dislike
doing it if it helps clear that bad boy out of me I'll do it. Afterall, its just another
step to getting there (oh these steps..too much fun)! Thanks Kevin for all you do and have

I first acquired Chrinic Fatigue Syndrom about 6 years ago, then got an tattoo and got
guess who Hep. C himself. It's been a downhill slide since, a nightmare to say the least.
And as most of you know the symptoms are endless. Each day is a struggle for me. At
present me viral load is a million and rising and audy, audy, audy, and infections almost
every 4 to 6 weeks. The doctors had me more antiobiotics, yea, yea, and send me home. I
have degenerating disks in my back and neck, reflux etc. The Dr.s want to wait till
there's a better treatment and not do interferon, another Dr. wants me on and is ferious
but can't put me on because she's my internest. SOOO I'm pretty much on my own here, and
am out of answers. I've tried chinese medicine and it has helped some. I have no support
group, and feel quite alone in all of this, and scard. I have an almost 10 year old girl
to raise and sometimes I wonder if I will be able to live that long. I try to look good on
the outside!, but inside I am always battling something. Sometimes when people say Oh you
don't look sick, I could just sock them, they have no idea. I need any information on any
new treatments, holistic preferably, and any support would be great.

Hep C was and my doctor never explained it to me so for all that time I walked around with
this virus and didn't have a clue what a time bomb it was until I got another diagnosis
last May and by September I was on the combo treatment. I'm still going to school and
working but life has become a challage every single day.

I just found out about 15 minutes ago that I have this condition. I will be setting an
appointment with a specialist who is going to be calling.
I have no history that relates to how you get this (problem). How have other people who
lead "normal" lives with no problems get such a thing?

Having almost finished combination therapy as of this writing the yirus is undetectable
although I still feel the effects of the treatment. Being the Father of four it makes life
interesting to say the least. As a former professional athelete, this truly is the hardest
therapy Ive ever had to deal with. I cant imagine how some have had to suffer through the
side effects from the treatment. I just found this site as Ive preferred to stay quite
about this and deal with it from withing my family unit. If anyone needs to discuss they
plite or just to have someone to rap with Im always here and being a person in the public
eye I know what it is to hide or be isolated.

Having the black background makes everything look nice, but I often don't have time to
read the information while it is on line and so, I print it out for a later time.
My eyes just aren't as good as they once were. So far I've been very intereste in what
I've seen. I was just notified the day after Thanksgiving (!) that I was positive.
Have already developed a support group, on-line and in town. That has been really good for
my morale. I had a second test that confirmed the first and have a third test
coming up in January, possibly with biopsy. I won't be able to start meds until March, but
in the meantime am taking one a day vitamins, Milk Thistle, Vit C, a calcium,
magnesium, zinc combination. In addition, I take Ginko Biloba for my memory. And Shark
Carilage and Osteo-bi-flex for my chondromalagia. Falling apart at 50!

Both myself and my wife were recently diagnosed with HCV, which was caught in my 40 yr.
physical during my blood screening. I had no idea and felt fine. After further testing my
liver function was slightly elevated and viral load relatively low at this time, my wife's
liver functions were normal. My doctor and myself are both very aggressive minded, and on
his recommedation I started Combination therapy this week 12/10/99. I have not
been genotyped or had a biopsy done at this time. I'm very active both in sports and at
Work as an engineer and do not know what to expect during this therapy, although I did get
flu like symptoms after the first night of interferon which subsided in about 12 hours.
I've been told the side effects will be worst at the start and lessen with time. What I'm
looking for is further information, and recommendations on diets, including protein, herb,
and vitamin supplements that will help during therapy. I'm also curious on what I should
expect in the upcoming months. Please e-mail me with any information or recommendations.

I was Rx with Hep C in the fall of 1995. I probably caught it in the fall of 1977 while
in the Army. I Tried 24 weeks of interferon. It didn't work. Tried to forget I have the
desease and did OK most of the time. However, for the last 6 to 12 months I'm feeling much
much more fatigued and foggy headed and also some pain and awareness in the abdominal
area. I'm beginning to get scared. The worst part is the terrible lonliness I feel. No one
understands what I feel. Those closest to me think they do and that's worse because they
really don't have a clue. I'm starting on the herbs. From reading this appears to me to be
the best route. Anyone in W. North Carolina that wants to share their experience please
send an e-mail.

Great site! Really wonder though how I could have gone 22 years undiagnosed after
constantly complaining of malaise, fatigue, light stools, upper rt quad pain, etc. All
symptoms. VA has done all my care since discharge in 1978. Miraculously, a random blood
test in the hall (for Hep C) found my dilema in Feb 99. Start treatment in January 2000
but i have cirrhosis which is contra-indicator for treatment. I guess I just don't
understand how it all works yet. Keep up the good work here. Didn't know about the claim
opportunity until Jan 99 either. Been out 21 years then. Well kept secret I'd say.

I was really glad to find this site and I want to thank Kevin for his information about
treatments and herbs. I was diagnosed with HepC a year and a half ago. I had a transfusion
when I was an infant, but I've gone 20 years without noticing any symptoms. The initial
liver biopsy indicated no liver damage at all. I decided to take inteferon injections and
ribavarin pills, and the amount of virus in my blood continued to decrease. For me the
inteferon didn't have any side effects, except for a little muscle soreness. I kept doing
gymnastics every day. I didn't feel tired. I know that one of the side effects is
depression, so I stopped taking the medication for a while, but if I go back on it, I
might have a decent chance of getting rid of the virus completely. Any advice you could
send my way would be appreciated.

I found out in March of 1999 that I have the HCV virus.I have finally found a good
doctor that seems to really care about me- Dr. S.K. Rajendran, M.D., I went to see him
today and he told me good news(I thank my Lord God Almighty for this)and he also told me
he wanted to start me on the Treatments to see if we couldn't totally get rid of the virus
from my body(in other words "KILL THAT DEMON").
Although, I do have one question to you.... Cooking on the iron skillets(that's about all
I have) is not a good thing then, right?
I know God is going to completely heal me of this demon(I call it)and get rid of it
forever-- patience is the key word here. I don't doubt God one bit... he will do it.
Thank you for your web and all the information that you and others have so tireless have
worked on for me and many, many others. Please pray that I do not loose my home.I will
pray for you and the other people I know that has this also.
Thank you and I appreciate you and that you are doing.

Love the fact that I can communicate with real people whit my same health problem. Some
more advanced and some more informed but all in all we are all on the road less taken.
Medication for the rest of our lives. Weather we like it or not, we have to remain health
concious and communicate with one another so that we may persevior. Our doctors maybe
guiding us threw our stages but all in all we have to take charge comit to a treatment log
our results and keep track of the changes in our bodies or the cause and effect of
medication. After all a doctor will not spend 24 hours a day with us and Rebetron thearapy
does not help my memory at all. So on with our new life time challenge & commitment to
ourselves.

So far, my health is good, and I have minimal liver damage. I've decided to take a wait

soon come along. I am a hospital Social Worker and am trying to look at my disease as an
opportunity to educate other professionals and provide support to patients. In spite of
all the negative aspects of HCV, I have to say that my life has actually improved since
diagnosis. I no longer waste time on unimportant, trivial issues, but have found an entire

I was diagnosed with Hep C in 1995. I had my first liver biopsy and was told that I had
inflammation of the liver, to follow up with an additional biopsy in 1999. I did have
another biopsy, only to discover that I've advanced to Fibrosis and bridging of the liver.
I am currently taking Ribavirrin and Interferon. The first month was an injection daily
with 5 Ribavirrin capsules. I am now taking same number of capsules daily, with injections
3 times weekly. My Physcian told me that I have Type II, which is more responsive to the
treatment that I'm receiving.
This Therapy has been very hard for me, itching, dry skin, flu like symptoms, lathargic,
with small bursts of energy. Inability to sleep and I also spend a lot of time in the
bathroom.
Any advice, will it get better?

Enjoyed the site. Was diagnosed with Hepatitis C antibody, screened for active virus -
nothing going on. However, still wondering about what is going on inside of me. I tell
everyone about my virus. Many are completely ignorant of it's existence. No idea (of
course) about how I acquired it. When I called for answers at the Liver Foundation, I felt
as though the receptionist was talking to some junkie. I've never even smoked a joint! I
felt as though I was hearing myself reading the articles. The frustration from being
a-symptomatic, but exhausted. I am doing well liver enzyme wise, but the general
practioner seems to dismiss my concerns. I met another sufferer recently and we discuss
the virus regularly. I can't tell you enough how nice it is to know I am not imagining the
aches and pains. Keep up the good work!!!!

I have recently tested positive, and now after reading Kev's story know I am not crazy.
I have been persistently seeing a doctor for six months complaining of the "brain
fog", fatigue and non-specific pains. Finally after six months, I was tested for a
variety of "long shots", and came back with a positive finding. I suppose I can
be somewhat relieved to finally know what I'm facing, but I still have a difficult time
dealing with the "fog" and fatigue factors along with waking up each morning and
wondering, "Will today be a good day or a bad day?"
My prayers go out to everyone facing this disease, and I hope that you will pray for me.

I was diagnosed in March of 1999 while at the doctor's for bronchitis, they do not know
where I got it from or how long I had it. I did a liver biopsy and my cells were undamaged
I feel tired sometimes, and have some aches and pains but I also had a car accident. I
have back and jaw problems. I drink a glass of wine on occasion and do not take tylenol or
anything of that nature. I have to take muscle relaxers, because of the pain. But all in
all I am learning about the disease. Your website has been very informative for me. Thank
you..

I found out I had Hep C with a routine physical. My blood tests showed elevated liver
funtion tests, so a hepatitis test was performed. I have completed the 12 month interferon
treatment, (tolerated it but didn't like it) it with good results, only to relapse after 3
months. Then tried the combo therapy for 6 months (ended it July 99). Now they want me to
have a go at it again. Always looking for alternatives.

Positive that I GOT Hep C while working in a hospital as a resp therapist but didn't
know it until a year later. From what I hear Hep C is fairly common with the staff of most
hospitals its probably the best kept secret in this country. I've alway used herbs for all
my medical needs and because of this haven't had any problems/// MANDRAKE IS my choice for

6,000,000. Began combo tx. in july. I am a single parent and the side effects of the combo

Hi,
My name is Joseph.
Ive had HEP C for 7 years now
I was on Interferon for 11 months and the new combination treatment for 5 more.
To be quite honest with you, the treatment made me feel worse than HEP C itself. The
side-effects were so bad that I couldnt even go back to work.
I was so fed up with the side effects that I just quit treatment all together.
Last March, I saw an article in “Natural Health” magazine called “ASK THE
EXPERTS” and there, Dr. Andrew Weil recommended a practitioner that
specializes in treating HEP C with alternative medicine. I took a chance and
looked up Dr. Zhang and have been on his treatment ever since. Not only did
my viral load drop, Dr. Zhang’s protocol has been able to normalize my liver
functions (fibrosis reduced and halted). In addition, I have never felt
better (his treatment has virtually no side-effects) since my contraction of
the disease. I went back to work and everything is going very well. Now that
my life is restored, I would really like to share this experience and
treatment with others that suffer from this same horrific disease.
There is hope.
Be strong.

Diagnosed when my baby was 6 months old, now 2 1/2. Tried the interferon combo
treatment and broke out in hives. Not an alternative for me. Moved my little family to the
big city to be near family (makes me feel safer to be near my mom). My family is okay with
the fact I have this dreaded illness. My husband is a little less supportive and some of
his family members act a little funny towards me. (I didn't want everyone to know and they
do) My husband doesn't understand why I get tired so easily. The constant running around
after a toddler and the stairs that I'm not used to in this rowhouse exhaust me. I try to
have a positive outlook. It could be worse, I could have something like cancer. I lost my
dad to cancer last November. He went quick. At least I have time with my long awaited
invitro baby. Figures doesnt it.

A week after we got married me and my husband found out that we were infected with
hepatitis c. I was scared at first but the more I find out the easier it is to cope with.
I honestly believe that my attitude has alot to do with how I feel.My husband just got out

myself to keep active and positive.I honestly believe that is the reason I have stayed so
healthy.Thank you so much Kevin and his wonderful wife(sorry I forgot your first name)for

I don't know where to begin and I certainly don't want to give up. I am falling in
love with a carrier of HCV and am battling against whether to stay or to go. Without
anywhere else to turn... I came here. If I could gather enough information and face the
fear of contracting this... well... I think that leaving him would never be an option.
There is also the issue of how much it's already effected his liver and where we will be
five or ten years down the line... I am selfishly terrified of not only being left alone,
but of the financial burdens for which I may be setting myself up. Where to begin to make
such decisions? Right here, I suppose. So, to start... I'd like to battle the fear. Thank
you for all that you do for all of us.

About 2 yrs ago I was diagnosed w/Hep C. I've had bad liver enzyme readings since
1970, but Hep C was not diagnosed until 1997. Interferon seemed to help and all liver
enzyme readings went back to normal. The more I learn, the more I realize that Hep C is
not curable. It is scary, knowing that I'm probably going to die before my time, due to a
disease, that I have no idea, how I contracted.

I am so grateful to my mother for sending me an article she found in a GNC Magazine.
I recently moved to Florida from Oregon and when I left Oregon my counts were good,
excellent the doctor said. But since being in Florida I am regressing back to the tired
all the time, kinda itchy, really moody and weight flucuation. I finally read the article
my mother sent and found this site and I am so happy I did. Thank you for Kev's story and
I am going to follow his regimen and see where that takes me. I take several of the herbs
already, but not high enough doses, and I need to do away with the red meat. I would love
to hear from Kev and any others that might like to share their experience of this thing
called HepC...I still have a hard time admitting to it's existence, even after 2 years.
Though I guard against infecting anyone else...it's still hard for me to swallow I have
this thing....Thank you for being here....

Hi, I have chronic active HCV and was wondering if you
might know of a list of others in Santa Barbara? There
is a support group here but I don't like groups that much
and they are more of a club thing. I need to speak with
someone that would understand where I am coming from. For
example , what HCV has done to my marriage of 21 years. My
wife doesn't want anything to do with me any more. I have not touched her in 5 years. A
lot do to money, but I just
bought her a new car, etc.. In groups , if you start telling
people that, they think your looking for a date or something
on thoses lines. To be honest though it would not be a bad
thing. Anyway it would be great to be able to talk to someone now and then on the phone or
in person, but no group
setting. If you know of such a list please reply. And
thanks so much for doing what your doing...Bruce

I was diagnosed with Hep. C @ 2 years ago. I have received no treatment. My doctor
orders blood work. I have no symptons except occasionally I have bouts of nausea and
frequently tired. Dr. has suggested a liver biopsy. I'm not thrilled with the thought. I
had a blood transfusion 34 years ago and have been a nurse for 20 years in a psychiatric
hospital. Iv've never used drugs and have been in a monagamous marriage for over 22 years.

I would like to correspond with others whom are in the same condition or similar to
mine. When I was first diagnosed in 1996 my physician assumed I was a carrier. I have a
low viral load 25k, my liver enzymes have always tested normal and my liver biopsy was
uneventful. Virus has not been to my liver YET. I'm 43 years old, athletic and I'm still
competing in Mountain Runs, Cross Country, and Nordic skiing. However, I do sometimes feel
fatigued, I have occasioanl nausea, and my weight is down. I'm never sure if my training
is casing my symptoms or is is the Hep C? I do in for labs 2X per year.(very expensive) My
insurance company termintated my claim. Had a new claim when I tested positive. So I'm
presently without insurance. I'm not in a panic at this time, but I often wonder if I'm
going to become ill like so many others with Hep C. If anyone has a similar experience
plase contact me.

Was diagnosed in 1996. Liver biopsy showed no fibrosis nor scirrosis. Did the
Interferon thing in 97..non-responder. Been using herbs and natural products since. In
1996 my HCV count was 1,000,000 last time I checked was 480,000. I thank my God YaHWeH and
his Son Yahshua for their support and never ending love. Very nice site, thanks,

I was diagnosed with HepC in 94. Had a liver biopsy and found some damage. The gastro I
was seeing put me on interferon which after 6 months of these shots I developed a toxic
reaction. After the interferon was out of my system I began feeling much better. Until
about a year ago I did not have any real syptoms to speak of. I began putting on alot of
weight in the abdomen area, was sent to gastros, gynos, internal medicine doctors after
many test nothing prevailed. Something is wrong though. I swell up from time to time like
I am 6 months pregnant, lots of different types of pain mostly soreness in the abdomen and
upper chestwall around the right side, and sometimes I feel like my liver is flopping back
and forth. Sounds crazy I guess but thats me. I can't get into see a doctor because of it
not being lifethreatening and is told that everyone has this HepC, but in the meantime
WHAT CAN I DO. I have 5 kids and no energy to even talk with them muchless play. And they
don't understand why Mom is always tired. Have any good advise? Frustrated but, a
believer that through God's help we will all be better.
